  • iTune downloads of musical selections from Glee have now gone over the 1 million mark and almost every song from the show has entered the Top 200 upon release
  • All cast members do their own singing and dancing.
  • 70 songs were used in the first thirteen episodes
  • Stephen Tobolowsky plays a character named Sandy Ryerson. Tobolowky appeared as pushy insurance salesman Ned Ryerson in Groundhog Day (1993).
  • The character of Kurt was written for Chris Colfer after he originally auditioned for the role of Artie. The writers told him that he looked like one of the Von Trapp kids, and Chris told them he actually just starred in The Sound of Music, playing Kurt Von Trapp. This obviously stuck in the writers' mind, as they called his character Kurt Hummel (the surname after the cherubic figurines).
  • In her audition for the role, Lea Michele sang "On My Own" from Les Miserables. However, the pianist cut the second verse without telling her. She stopped singing and told him "We have to go back and do the verse!" The writers laughed, and later said she definitely had the Rachel role down.
  • The role of Principal Figgins was originally written for a white actor. They ended up casting Iqbal Theba who was born in Karachi, Pakistan.
  • Cory Monteith didn't sing in his first audition video. He instead produced a beat using makeshift drums. The producers liked his personality and originality so much they called his agent and requested he fly to Los Angeles for a live audition.
  • On the day of her audition, Lea Michele was in a car accident right outside of the studio. She came in literally still pulling glass from her hair.
  • The role of Quinn Fabray was not cast until the night before filming began.
  • Several times during filming they had to stop rolling to tell Kevin McHale (II) to stop tapping his feet to the beat of the music.
  • Much like her character Emma Pillsbury, Jayma Mays has a peanut butter and jelly sandwich every day.
  • Terri works at Sheets N' Things which is obviously a play on Linens N' Things. By the time the Pilot aired Linens N' Things had closed all of its stores across the country had closed.
  • Much of the main cast of "Glee" (2009) performed for President Barack Obama, his family, and the approximately 30,000 children and parents in attendance at the 2010 White House Easter Egg Roll on April 5, 2010. Among the songs the Glee group sang were "Don't Stop Believin'," "Over the Rainbow," and "Sweet Caroline," which songwriter Neil Diamond has said was originally written as a tribute to Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of President John F. Kennedy; Malia and Sasha Obama, the daughters of President Obama, were in the front row to hear the concert.
  • Rachel (Lea Michele) sings "On My Own" from "the seminal Broadway classic 'Les Misrables'" for her glee club audition. While still a small child, Michele made her Broadway debut as an alternate for the roles of young Cosette and young ponine in "Les Misrables", and later was offered the role of adult ponine (the character who sings "On My Own" in the show). Michele turned down the chance to play adult ponine so that she could stay with the "Spring Awakening" production (which she had been with since its first workshop days) when it moved to Broadway.
  • Stephen Tobolowsky plays a character named Sandy Ryerson, the same last name as his character in Groundhog Day (1993), Ned Ryerson.
  • Originally, the role of Principal Figgins was written for a white guy but Iqbal Theba got the part. He was born in Karachi, Pakistan
  • Kurt sings the song "Cellophane" from Chicago. Chris Colfer sang the same song for his audition for the show.
  • The night before shooting the pilot, Quinn had still not been cast. Dianna Agron auditioned and sang in the office next to Robert J. Ulrich the night before filming began.
  • The scene where Rachel reprimands Finn for deciding to quit Glee because his friends tease him originally ended with her slapping him. In her audition, Lea Michele reached across the table without any hesitation and slapped one of the casting directors, who was reading Finn for her. When the other casting directors erupted with laughter, Michele sternly told them "This isn't comedy - that was my sad face! Now, I'm going to do it again and you're all going to cry."
  • Dakota Stanley (Whit Hertford) calls Finn (Cory Monteith) "Frankenteen". Frankenteen is Monteith's Twitter name.
  • Cheyenne Jackson was originally cast as Dakota Stanley, but was replaced at the last minute when he came down with the 'flu.
  • Rachel believes she should get the solo in Tonight because she identifies with Natalie Wood (I). Wood, however, did not do her own singing in the film of West Side Story (1961) - she was dubbed by Marni Nixon.
  • When she is reveals to her sister that she has a secret about the baby, Terri's (Jessalyn Gilsig) sister says "Oh my god, is the baby black?". Jessalyn Gilsig also played in Ryan Murphy (I)'s "Nip/Tuck" (2003) as Gina Russo, the woman who gets pregnant by Christian Troy (Julian McMahon). In the season 1 finale, Gina gives birth to an African American baby, proving that it was never Christian's child.
  • In the opening, Kurt performs "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" by Beyonc Knowles with Tina and Brittany as backup dancers. Heather Morris, who plays Brittany, was one of Beyonc's back-up dancers for the "Single Ladies" performance at the 2008 American Music Awards.
  • When Kristin Chenoweth was a guest star on this episode of "Glee" (2009), series regular Chris Colfer told The LA Times that for him, "working with Kristin is what I can imagine what a priest would go through if they worked with Jesus.".
  • Although only a few details of the school's production of "Cabaret" are visible in this episode, those we do see show that the "Glee" showrunners have taken some artistic license with the classic musical. Rachel is shown practicing the song "Maybe This Time," which was included in the movie, not the stage musical (although it did appear in the 1998 Donmar Warehouse stage revival, it does not appear in any onstage version of "Cabaret" that is legally performable by high school, college, or community theaters). Also, the dialogue that Rachel and Finn practice is a paraphrase of an exchange that occurs only in the movie, and not in any version of the musical ever staged.
  • All episodes are one word titles with the exception of this episode.
  • When Sue is scheming to get Will to leave (and scuttle the Glee Club's chances of success), she tells Terri that she should become the school nurse and see for herself that there is romantic tension between Will and Emma. When Terri says she can't do that because she's not a nurse, Sue replies, "I'm not an American citizen. I was born in the Panama Canal zone. But I managed to get a passport. And run for office twice." This is a reference to Arizona Senator John McCain, who was born in the Panama Canal Zone and who ran for the presidency of the United States in 2000 and 2008.
